Welcome to City of Nezperce
On average it takes a whole day to load the bins, haul them to Lewiston, empty them and haul them back and unload.
A full load of recyclables grosses around $120 so of course the fuller the load the more money. The City of Nezperce is asking help from the public by doing a few things prior to dropping off your items. With your assistance the process will run smoother and quicker for all.
*Remove lids off plastic bottles and smash the bottles so they take up less room in the bins. Also please smash cans before depositing them.
*Plastics are NOT ALL recyclable – ONLY bottles with a top (opening) smaller than the bottom are allowed. NO sandwich containers; NO cool whip or butter containers. When these non-recyclable items are dropped off the maintenance department has to remove them taking additional time that adds up quickly.
*NO PLASTIC BAGS. These plastic bags should be emptied into the bins and then the bags disposed of – there are green garbage tots at the city shop for plastic bag disposal. The maintenance department has been removing these plastic bags.
*When the bins are full – PLEASE WAIT TO DROP OFF YOUR RECYCLABLES. We are aware the bins are full and making arrangements to empty them. We ask for your patience as sometimes it takes a few days to schedule a delivery. Weather and road conditions play a part in scheduling.
Thank you for supporting the recycling program. If the time is taken to remove lids, smash bottles and cans, dispose of the plastic bags and not throw in non-recyclable items, the program will run better for all.
Please contact City Hall at 937-1021 if you have any ??'s.
