At 10:00 a.m. on Memorial Day, the Nezperce Historical Society will present its 'Pioneer Program' at Nezperce City Cemetery before the American Legion Ceremony which begins at 11:00 a.m..
The 'Pioneer Program' will begin with stories of three early pioneer families, Mr. Z.A. Johnson, a prominent business man who built the Nezperce Roller Mill. Come learn what his real name was, what family members stayed in this area and what other businesses this mover and shaker was involved in.
Sue Justesen will tell the history of the tragic death of three young boys of J.D. and S Graham. imagine the loss of three sons in the space of four months. Stephen Koepl will tell you how the story of this family was found.
Do you know what G.A.R means on a tombstone? Janice Higuera will explain that when she shares the life of our Civil War veteran Harvey Jefferis.
The program will last about 45 minutes and we ask that you bring a lawn chair and dress for the weather. This is the fourth history program that the Nezperce Historical Society has put on and enjoyed sharing the stories of the forefathers, families and prominent members of our community.
The Pioneer Program will be held prior to the annual American Legion program, which will start at 11.
At 11:00 a.m., the Nezperce American Legion BRC Post #8 will host a Memorial Day Service at the Nezperce Community Cemetery.
All are invited to attend.
After the service a pulled pork lunch will be held at the Legion Hall for veterans, military members and their families and all who served or are currently serving in the military will be held starting around noon at the Legion Hall, 420 Maple St.
